We look forward to welcoming you to The Met! Please review our visitor guidelines outlined below prior to your visit. By visiting in person, you agree to abide by these policies, and The Met reserves the right to ask visitors who do not follow these guidelines to leave the Museum’s premises.
Health and Safety
The health and safety of all is our priority. The Met will continue to monitor and abide by guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), New York State, and New York City for health and safety procedures that inform our operations.
- Masks are strongly recommended.
- If you are unable to visit us in person, please see below for more information on the wide range of virtual resources, activities, and programs that you can enjoy from home. We will be here to welcome you when you are able to return.
- An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public space where people are present. We cannot guarantee that you will not be exposed to COVID-19 during your visit to The Met. Those visiting The Met do so at their own risk of such exposure.
The Met permits photography and video for private, non-commercial use only at The Met Fifth Avenue and The Met Cloisters.
Hand-Held Cameras and video on personal cellular devices may be used, without a flash, to photograph and film the galleries unless otherwise designated.
Photographs and video cannot be published, sold, reproduced, transferred, distributed, or otherwise commercially exploited in any manner whatsoever.
What Is Not Allowed
The Museum does not permit the following at either location:
- Photography and video of specific works of art designated as no-photography
- Photography and video in galleries designated as no-photography
- Use of flash
- Selfie sticks, tripods, monopods, drones, and professional video equipment, unless previously arranged and approved by the Communications Department (see below).
The Museum is not able to store large camera equipment in our coat check. Please do not bring them to the Museum during your visit or you will not be able to enter the Museum.
